Can we have video lectures embedded in the Ebooks and have them available
offline.
To elaborate, if a student downloads the Ebook, the videos should also be
downloaded.
As of now I can add videos as links only.
Please provide any suggestion you may have?

Thanks,
Siri

Hi Sirisha,

It is possible to embed video in an EPUB file (using <video>), but many authors and publishers choose not to because it makes the files very large.

Please see https://www.w3.org/Submission/2017/SUBM-epub-contentdocs-20170125/Overview.html#sec-xhtml-fallbacks.

I suspect it would it be a possible to create a script that downloads
the media and changes the video tag to reflect local.

That would schools to create a version of the EPUB they can distribute
to students that has the resource local rather than remote.

I'm not familiar with epub but if it is standard xml then it certainly
is possible.

hello:

I discuss this in my thesis (which is available in epub format download at http://artbyrt.com/artbyrt_docs/splash_film.html <http://artbyrt.com/artbyrt_docs/splash_film.html>

My experience is good for films in epubs but not longer than 3mins in length: otherwise epub file size balloons.

Hopefully WebVTT would work with it, if not I would file bug reports
with the ePub viewer, WebVTT is fairly established now as the standard
way to include captions / subtitles / chapters with HTML5 media and ePub
software should support it.

It's with the HTML5 track element.

WebVTT is very similar to SRT but has some noticeable differences.
